The information provided here will guide you through next steps as you begin your education journey as a Berkeley Engineering Master’s student.

On Thursday, May 14, 2026, we will host an informational session for our admitted students. You can use this link to register for that session – if you’re able to attend live we strongly recommend that.

We will be sending you automatic emails regarding important information about the program, to-do items, and things to help you prepare for your coursework between when you submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) and when you begin classes with the MAS-E program through MailChimp. When you submit your SIR, you are automatically opted into this communication service.

Tuition is $1,750 per unit for a total of $42,000 for 24 units. Additional per-semester campus fees are required. Campus fees are approximately $910 for the 2023-2024 Academic Year. Figures for tuition and fees represent currently approved or proposed amounts and may not be final. Actual tuition and fees are subject to change by the University of California as determined to be necessary or appropriate. Final approved tuition and fee levels may differ from the amounts presented. Tuition and fees have been set regardless of the method of instruction.
At this time, students are not eligible to receive federal financial aid to finance this program.
The majority of our part-time engineering master’s degree students receive some form of employer support to help with tuition and fees. Students should be prepared to cover the majority of the cost of the program through employer support, private loans, or other personal means.
Tuition and mandatory fees are due at the beginning of each semester in which you are enrolled. Payment plans are also available.

Students may complete the program in most countries, but there are exceptions. The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) has established regulations that prohibit U.S. persons (including the University of California) from providing remote educational services to individuals in certain sanctioned countries. The list of OFAC sanctioned countries currently includes: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria and Ukraine (specific regions only).
Please note that these restrictions are based on your physical location, not your citizenship or nationality. For example, if you are a citizen of Sudan but you currently live in Egypt, you can still take online courses with Berkeley Engineering.

An ‘MAS’ degree is an official degree designation which stands for Master of Advanced Study. MAS programs are generally interdisciplinary, as well as skills focused. They are often tailored to specific groups of professionals with well-defined needs. Ultimately, MAS degrees are designed to help students advance their careers, which is the goal of the MAS-E program.
MAS-E is the only designation one should use when indicating this degree program on resumes and other areas.
No, not at all. The application asks for applicants to indicate their interest in concentrations, but this is meant for our staff to gauge interest in each concentration, but not meant for an official declaration of a student’s area of study. After a few terms in the program, we will contact you with the instructions on how to declare your concentration officially.
Your degree concentration that you declare will not show on your diploma, but it will show on your official and unofficial transcripts once your degree has been posted after graduation. The concentration that you choose is official, and you can use it on your resume as such.
MAS-E students may only declare one concentration, officially, to be listed on your transcripts. However, the interdisciplinary nature of the program allows you to take coursework in other concentrations that interest you as electives, which can allow you to tailor your degree to what most interests you.
Scholarships are available on a case-by-case basis. You will be contacted by MAS-E staff prior to the start of each semester if you are awarded funds.
We highly encourage our students to search for additional scholarships outside of MAS-E funds. UC Berkeley has a lot of resources to help with this process.
Additionally, we recommend that if you have not already, reach out to your employer about any tuition reimbursement programs that they might have available to help pay for your coursework.
