Course Overview

In this course, you will explore the foundational principles of non-relativistic quantum physics, focusing on both theoretical concepts and practical applications relevant to contemporary technology. You’ll delve into core quantum concepts such as wavefunctions, probability, energy quantization, particle-wave duality, and the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. A primary goal of the course is to guide you through establishing and solving the Schrödinger equation for quantum systems in one and multiple dimensions.

Additionally, you’ll develop familiarity with critical mathematical tools, including operators, Dirac notation, and Hilbert space, applying these tools to analyze quantum systems involving identical particles, spin, and angular momentum. Perturbation theory will be introduced to explain quantum transitions, including optical processes. By the end of the course, you will have the skills to describe and solve quantum mechanical problems, equipping you for further study in areas such as quantum computation, quantum communication, and emerging quantum information science technologies.
